John Gerald Winge born in Anacortes, Washington, June 21st 1938, peacefully passed away on February 27th 2011, at Burton's Care Center, after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure.
Jerry, as he was called by his friends was raised in Anacortes, Washington. His parents John and Marie owned and operated Winge's Grocery on 10th & K. Jerry worked at the Anacortes plywood mill, the Anacortes school district. and at Intalco north of Bellingham.
His first love as a boy was music. He entertained many people throughout the years with his unique style of guitar, and his soft, gentle sounds of melody filled many hearts with joy.
Jerry was married to Irene Hinds of Anacortes on August 13th 1971, For several years Jerry and Irene enjoyed sharing their music with the Elderly at the local Care Centers in Skagit, Island and Whatcom Counties. He lost his beloved Irene in November, 2006, he was also preceded in death by his parents John and Marie Winge of Anacortes, and his sister Anne Holt.
He is survived by his 8 children Cobi Winge of Anacortes, Lisa Schrinner of Tennessee, John Winge of Minnesota, Jim and Lori Kelley of Camano Island, Kathy and Dave Bye of Saskatchewan, Bill and Diane West of Burlington, Janice and David Sherman of Birdsview, and Rus and Linda West of Mount Vernon, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Thank you to all the caring staff at Burton's Care Center for making his last days comfortable and to Dr. Stickle and Dr. Landreth, Skagit Valley Hospital and their staff for giving Popa many good years of life. He was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed!
