Juanita I. Akers, age 87, of Anacortes died June 15, 2012 from complications of congestive heart failure and stroke. She was born January 25, 1925 in Kiowa, Kansas to George F. and Georgia M. Wright.

Juanita spent a large part of her childhood enduring the Great Depression. She graduated from Kiowa High School in 1943, after which she worked at the Nazarene Publishing House in Kansas City, MO for 11 years.
She married Orval W. Akers in 1951 in Kansas City, MO. They pastored Churches of the Nazarene in Hereford and Muleshoe, Texas and Kiowa Kansas.
Due to health issues with Orval, in 1962 they moved to Anacortes, WA and Juanita worked as a dental assistant for a number of years. Juanita also delivered the Seattle P.I. for a while to help make ends meet. She retired in 1993.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Orval in 2002, as well as four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by sons David Akers (Angie Rosales) of Austin, TX, John Mark (Carolyn) Akers of Enumclaw, WA and Ed Akers of Anacortes; grandchildren John (Jena) Akers and Josh (Kristie) Akers; one great-granddaughter, Wynne; and two sisters, Leta Schwanz of San Dimas, CA and Joyce Miller of Creswell, OR.
Services will be held at the Mount Vernon Church of the Nazarene, June 21, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
