KATHERINE BEEBE Obituary

Katherine J. Beebe, age 78, born July 2, 1932; died February 19, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

Born and lived most of her life in Seattle, she moved to La Conner 12 years ago. Raised in foster care from age 2, she overcame many obstacles on life's journey.

Because of her wonderful intellect, her love of learning and her sheer determination, she graduated the University of Washington in 1967 with a degree in English Literature. She was passionate about her friends, her pets, poetry, politics, and nature.

She loved to read, run, bike and hike the Cascades. Along the way, she created her own "family" of friends, including her Godson, Lee.

Always the champion of the underdog, she chose to work with abused children, drug addicts and convicted felons in her many careers. A favorite poem by Emily Dickinson befits her:
"This is my letter to the World
That never wrote to Me-
The simple News that Nature told-
With Tender Majesty.
Her message is committed
To hands I cannot see-
For love of Her - Sweet - countrymen
Judge tenderly - of Me"

Farewell, dear friend. You are in God's pocket now. Remembrances can be sent to Meals on Wheels, 309 3rd St., Mount Vernon, WA 98273 or Sarvey Wildlife Care Center, P.O. Box 3590, Arlington, WA 98223.

I worked with Katherine almost eight years at the Department of
Corrections. She was one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Never have I known a person with such integrity and decency.

You didn't have to be around Katherine very long to know about her passion for her pets and friends. In spite of her difficult childhood, she had an amazingly uplifting way about her. She was always quick to laugh and boy was she loyal!

Our world has lost a wonderful soul. I am so saddened by her passing, but I also am relieved for her that she is no longer suffering with the chronic pain she indured.

I treasure the good times I had with her.

Kathy .. you moved and I moved .. and lost touch over the past 4 years. You introduced me to Scotties and changed my life forever .. for that you will always be in my heart! You are in my heart!
