Meredith Ellen Van Oort Phillipps passed away August 15, 2013, after a courageous fight with ovarian cancer.

She was born January 24, 1955, in New York to Jo-Ellen Van Oort and Rev. Harold Van Oort and grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey.

She was passionate about ballet and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Fine Arts in 1977. While at the university, she met her future husband, Tony Phillipps, a music major. He found a position with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and they settled in North Delta, B.C. where they welcomed two children, Matthew and Kathryn.

The family moved in 1998 to Lynden, WA, and Meredith became a teacher, working in the Burlington-Edison School District.

She is survived by her husband Tony, her son Matthew, his partner Molly and grandson Calvin, her daughter Kathryn, her sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family, and many good friends.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 AM at Faith Reformed Church, 300 7th St. Lynden, WA, to celebrate Meredith's life.

Donations to the Cancer Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Meredith's memory are appreciated.
