Olaf Olausen passed away at his home on Thursday July 11. He was 86 years old.

Olaf was born July 25, 1926 to Peder and Marie Olausen (Blyseth) at home on the family farm on Bainbridge Is., WA. Olaf was the third of four children with siblings Magnus, Gerd and Ruthie.

At 18, he was drafted into the Army and served during WWII in the Pacific theater. After his military service Olaf continued his education at UW and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his engineering career at The Westinghouse Co. in Pittsburgh, PA. Soon after arriving in Pittsburgh he met the love of his life, Eleanor Miller. They Married June 20, 1952 and lived near Pittsburgh for the next ten years.

Ole preferred the climate of the northwest so he relocated to Seattle and worked for The Boeing Co. for the remainder of his career except for a few years back at Westinghouse after the recession of '71. During his career at Boeing he worked in design, fabrication and testing in several different airplane divisions. He retired from Boeing in 1990 and began construction of his house on Whidbey Island. He and Eleanor lived there until their last move to Mount Vernon, their final home.

Ole was known for his friendly, giving nature with always a smile and helping hand. His inquisitiveness and energy was shown early by taking apart things and rebuilding them. Many an old car was rebuilt and re-fabricated during his youth, beginning a life-long love of Fords. Ole rebuilt several Model A Fords and enjoyed the Old Car Club on Whidbey. He built his retirement home, garages, cabinets, tools, or whatever was needed. In his later years Ole enjoyed walking for miles daily, cared for his love Eleanor, and was busy to the end.

Olaf was preceded in death by his brother, Magnus and sister, Ruthie, and his wife, Eleanor in January.

He is survived by sister, Gerd Saunders, son and wife David and Sydney Olausen, daughters and husbands Carol and Ted Skrivseth, and Nancy and Roger Riffle, grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Kenna Gordon, Christine Gordon, Eric Olausen, Scott Olausen, Ian Riffle, and great-grandchildren Jonathan Gordon, Kimberly Chapman, and Jacob Gordon.

He will be buried at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon. All those who knew Ole are invited to share his celebration of life, the Riffle's 22468 Amick Rd., Mount Vernon, at 5pm on July 19.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Northwest for their care and compassion. Memorials to Hospice of the Northwest are suggested in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
