RICHARD JACKSON Obituary

Richard T. Jackson of La Conner passed away on April 23, 2011 at Harbor View Hospital in Seattle with his family at his side.
Dick was born August 22, 1919 in Whitney, WA, and graduated from La Conner High School in 1937.

Dick entered the Army in 1942 and served during WWII. After being honorably discharged in 1945 he married Jean Mulder on September 22, 1945. Dick and Jean raised three children and lived in the Snee Oosh beach Hope Island area for over 60+ years. Jean passed away in 2008.

Dick is survived by three children, Larry L. Jackson of La Conner, Sandra Bessner (Chuck) of Bothell, Ted M. Jackson of La Conner; two grandchildren, Scott Bessner of Cave Junction, Oregon, Melinda (Mark Petrick) of Portland, Oregon; two great-grandchildren, Andy and Tyler Petrick and an older brother Harry "Red" Jackson of Stanwood.

Dick retired from 32 years at the La Conner Post Office in 1981. He was one of the first members of the Hope Island Fire Dept. for over 35 years. He loved to fish the river every chance he could, clam digging, hunting and crabbing and walking the beach for beach glass. He also loved to cut fire wood when they had a wood burning fireplace.

Any donations should go to the Hope Island Fire Dept. A celebration of life will be held at The Snee Oosh Beach Club (old Hope Island Fire Hall) at 16846 Chilberg Ave., La Conner, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, May 21, 2011.

Dear Sandy and family,
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. We felt like we knew him well from the stories you've told us over the years. We know you will miss him very much.

I had the pleasure of spending a 4th of July with the Jackson family, they were warm and welcoming! Dick put together a fresh steamed clam dinner that to this day was still the best! Also spent time with Dick & Jean for their 60th Wedding Aniversary in Las Vegas, Nevada we had a wonderful time. Dick a few months ago sent me a jar of beach glass that I will cherish for many years to come. Dick and I shared the same month for our birthdays "You will be missed"

I would like to send the family all the love and joy during this hard time of life. I will forever be thankful for your dads life as it brought his son Larry into mine. I only wish I could have meet him and seen them together. Larry, I will miss the fun calls from the car with you and your dad together. I truly wish i could have meet him.

My condolences to the Jackson family. I am so glad to have met both of your parents. It was a privilege to by their neighbor. Dick had such a marvelous, wicked sense of humor.

We had the pleasure of meeting Dick and Jean Jackson 20 years ago while visiting Larry. Dick was kind enough to take us crabbing on his boat. We caught loads of crab and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at their home. Dick even insisted on doing the dishes. He was a great guy and we wish we knew more like him. We were so sorry to hear of his passing.

Our condolences to the Jackson family.
