In the late 60's, they lived on the Olympic Peninsula; returning to Alaska in the 1974 until they settled back in Sedro-Woolley by 1982.
Over the years Shirley worked as a dietician at Northern State Hospital, in food service at a logging camp while in Alaska, in Central Supply at United General Hospital, as a night clerk at the Cocusa Motel, and assembling grinding wheels for Bates Abrasive.
