TERRY POTTER Obituary

Terry L. Potter passed away on April 28, 2011, at age 64 after a long battle with lung disease. He was born to Charles and Charlene (Buddy) Potter in December 1946 in Ketchikan, AK, but moved to Skagit County in 1947.

Terry was active in wrestling and football while attending Sedro Woolley High School. He graduated in 1965. After high school he attended Skagit Valley College and took some computer classes, then began working for his dad in the cedar shake business. During his last few years with Clear Shake, Terry supervised helicopter logging to salvage cedar blocks. When the mill closed, he attended Winona School of Professional Portrait Photography in Chicago, IL. He worked for Dwain Mason Studio as a professional photographer, and owned the studio for several years. A change of career found him working as a mobile home repairman for Coach Corral in Burlington, and then as an independent contractor repairing mobile homes until his retirement due to ill health in 2004.

Terry was a family man who took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed trail riding, fishing, duck and deer hunting, and building wood furniture. Terry enjoyed playing hand drums, taking and printing photos, and vintage airplanes.

Terry married Sandra Leckenby in August, 1971.

Terry is survived by his father, Chuck Potter, his wife Sandy and two daughters, Sally Potter Mulcahy and her husband Frank currently of Connecticut, and Katherine (Kate) Potter Stewart and her husband Matt of Ferndale. He has three grandchildren: Riley Mulcahy, Frank Mulcahy, and Abraham Stewart; two sisters, Jolene and her husband Dennis Berry of Walla Walla, WA, and Becky Potter of Sedro Woolley, mother-in-law Marilynn Leckenby, brother-in-law Steve Leckenby and his wife Tracy, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Cremation Services were provided by Kern Funeral Home. A celebration of Terry's life will be held in May, date and location to be determined.

In memory of Terry, the family suggests donations to Seattle Children's Hospital, Commemorative Giving, PO Box 5371, Seattle WA 98145-5005 or www.seattlechildrens.org.

Terry was a fantastic friend to all. We were in school together from 1st grade through high school. Terry always had a smile and a friendly word for everyone. Last I saw him, was at our high school reunion in 2010, and although he was suffering, he was so happy to see everyone. Thank you for your friendship.

Terry was the father of my best friend Kate growing up and kind of a second dad to me. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a big heart. I will remember him by his playing air guitar, his laughter, his photographs, his most excellent taste in music and, most of all, his quote warning the guys about us two wild teenaged girls, "They're not just women, they're amazons." Thanks, Terry. It really does take a village and you were an important part of that.

Sam, Sally, Katie and family: We loved every moment we shared with Terry and with you. The memories over the years give us so many wonderful pictures in our hearts and minds that we will always treasure. His generosity, his smile and his sense of humor, always present, are etched in our hearts...we are forever richer for sharing our lives with him. There aren't words to express how much we will miss him. Love to all of you.

Terry, my lifelong friend, my "brother", I will forever cherish, your mischievous smile, your laughing eyes, the resonance of your voice, but mostly the selflessness and purity of your spirit. I will love you always.

Thank you, Terry, for enriching my life with your beautiful family. I love all of you, my world is better that you are part of it, I am here for all of you forever.

Sweet Terry, you are no longer "tethered", let your soul soar again, as it once did, as it was always meant to.
