Vic spent his early days playing on his family's coffee farm and exploring the Carpintera Mountains. His father passed away when Vic was about 10 years old and this greatly influenced his life. He began working at the age of 12 at the La Sabana Airport, in San Jose, Costa Rica, alongside the mechanics. Thus began his life-long love of airplanes.
In 1949, Vic joined his best friend, Ole Munoz in Los Angeles, CA. After working various odd jobs, he chose to enlist with the Army Air Corps. While in the Air Force, Vic was stationed in Greenland, Germany, Scotland, Texas, Japan, Alabama, Maryland and did two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He was very proud of his military service and the Air Force.
While in Scotland, Vic met and married Sylvia Ann Williams. Their oldest son, Paul Martin (Marty) was born in Scotland. Sons, Carl Robert (Bobby) and Christopher were born while he was stationed in Texas. In 1962, the family was transferred to Japan, and while living there, Vic and Sylvia were divorced and Vic raised his three sons on his own. After leaving Japan, Vic served at several different bases, including Andrews Air Force Base, in Washington, D.C.
Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1971, Vic decided to move his family to Costa Rica where they lived for four years.
Vic's final move was to Concrete, WA. He fell in love with the area and lived there from 1978 until his death. While in Concrete, Vic was instrumental in cleaning up the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete and spent many hours landscaping the area around the cemetery as well.
Vic was a life-long learner. He was especially interested in reading books and magazines about airplanes, anthropology, birds and gardening. He loved to tend to his flower and vegetable gardens and feed the birds. A lifetime achievement of Vic's was mentoring youth at the cemetery in Concrete.
He is survived by his three sons, Marty of Vancouver, WA, Carl of Concrete and Chris and his wife, Lori of Sedro-Woolley; grandchildren, Robert Flores, of Concrete, Alicia and her husband, Chad Kimple, of Eastsound, Leah and her husband, Tony Ell, of Portland, Carlie Flores, of Vancouver, Adriana, Amy and Shauna Flores, of Sedro-Woolley; one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews in Costa Rica.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters, Luz, Sarah and Teresa, two nephews and his dear friend, Eddie Nick.
A Military Graveside Committal Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Forest Park Cemetery, Concrete, WA, with Father Martin Bourke officiating. A reception will follow at the St. Catherine's CCD Center on Main Street.
