Randy taught building construction and maintenance for a number of years at Skagit Valley College, and taught building construction at Bellingham Vocational Technical Institute / Bellingham Technical College. Randy touched the lives of many of his students, and they kept in contact with him after finishing their course of study.

Randy had that Marine "can do attitude", and helped form the local Marine Corp League. He loved his dogs Buddy, Lacey, and Annie as well as the numerous cats that he and Marilyn had throughout their years of marriage.
On February 14, 1985 Randy married Marilyn LaRue, the love of his life, in Anacortes, WA. They lived together in happiness for the next 28 plus years in Anacortes, Ferndale, and Sedro Woolley.
