Fred was born and lived most of his life in the Sedro Woolley area. He was 88 years old when he passed away. He lived at Birchview Memory Care in Sedro Woolley when he passed away with his wife Dillard Candler and his step daughter Sue Dean by his side.

Fred was in the Navy for 3 years and spent most of his time on the ship USS Astoria, with honor he served in World War 2. He started working at Skagit Steel Works in 1946. He went all over the world to repair large machinery. He worked for 41 years before he retired in 1987. He enjoyed doing wood crafts after retirement.
He is survived by his wife Dillard Candler and her children, his niece Janet Rhul and husband Steve, nephews Bill Zonneveld and his friend Valentina, Denny Candler and wife Carol, George Candler and his wife Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mathew Housman Candler and Elizabeth Bowes Candler, his brothers George Thomas, William and Charles, sisters Mary Keller, Charlotte Gilmore and Nillie Zonneveld, his first wife and her daughter Joan Burgman.
At Fred's request there will be no services.
We would like to thank all the staff at Birchview Memory Care for the care and love they provided Fred. He was known to the staff as "Grandpa" or "Papa".
Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
