Claudius "Claudia" P. Lafferty, 82, of Anacortes, went home to heaven and to be with all her loved ones who passed before her, on Friday, March 7, 2014 at her home in Rosario Assisted Living.
The Guest Book is expired.
Claudia was born October 6, 1931, in the small Texas town of Tenaha, to Jim and Lena Weaver, where she had four loving brothers as well as countless other family members.
In her grade school years, her family moved to Corrigan, Texas, where later Claudia would meet and marry Billy (Tex) Lafferty on October 7, 1950. In 1951 their first son, Michael, was born and three years later their daughter, Peggy joined the family. In 1955, Tex and Claudia followed her brother Bill Weaver, who was stationed at the Whidbey Naval Air Station, to Anacortes, WA. The move was funded by Tex selling his nine prize hogs. The family, along with Mam-ma and Pap-pa, Claudius' parents, traveled here in a cream colored 1949 Nash sedan with all their belongings towed behind in a two horse trailer. In 1959, Scooter was born into the family and the family was complete.
Claudia was well known by all the Anacortes strawberry picking children, as their bus driver and field boss. After a time, she took a job as line worker at the Whitney Fidalgo Cannery, working for over twenty years, until she retired in 1980.
Her family will all miss her wonderful southern cooking and how it drew family and friends together year after year. Claudia was the kind of mother-in-law and grandmother that family members knew they were lucky to have and she always made everyone feel they were special to her.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband and three of her brothers.
Claudia leaves behind her youngest brother, Don Weaver (Dorothy), three children: Mike (Sarah), Peggy (Steve) and Scooter, four grandchildren: Brandon Lowry (Rhonda), Travis Parker, Kisha Click (Matt), Shane Lafferty (Marisa) and five great grandchildren: Trystan, Brittney, Madison, Shanel and Bryson and many nieces and nephews.
Claudius' family wishes to thank the staff at Rosario Assisted Living and San Juan Care Center for their kindness and compassion and gives a special thanks to Jim Roe for the extra care he gave our family.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Evans Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Fernhill Cemetery. A reception will take place after the burial at Evans Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Claudius, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
