Kay was well-loved as she grew up in Alice and Kenneth Watkinson's warm and loving Edison home.
She graduated from Burlington Edison High School and studied anthropology at Western Washington University.
Kay and Denton Wendland were married and made their home in Mount Vernon, where they had four children.
Kay's piano teacher and family were pleasantly surprised when they discovered Kay's ability to learn music by ear.
Kay's hobbies included singing, playing the organ, being an avid sports fan, and driving her red PT Cruiser. She also loved playing in the yard with her children, and the family camping trips exploring Washington and Oregon.
Kay was always ready to share laughter with family and friends, and was well-known as being able to recall any important date.
After her husband's death, Kay continued her education at Skagit Valley College, earning her Associate's Degree in Human Resources. She then worked in health care for several years before retiring.
Kay was preceded in death by her infant daughter Gretchen, her husband Denny, her father Kenneth, her mother Alice, and her brother Gerald.
She is survived by son Keith (and Helen), of Burlington; son Dean of Port Orchard; daughter Carolyn (and Tom) of Burlington; grandchildren Brian and Jordan of Bellingham, and Megan of Port Orchard: one aunt, one uncle, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
