Vera Nichols, 86, of Anacortes, Washington passed away peacefully on April 18, 2014 surrounded by three generations of her family. At the time of her death she was living with her daughter and son-in-law in Mount Vernon where she was recovering from a fall that had taken place in February.

Vera was born on August 27, 1927 on the family farm north of Cut Bank, MT. One of 4 children, she was delivered by a midwife and remained on the farm until she entered school. The family then moved to the small town of Sweet Grass, MT where she completed her schooling.
Vera met her future husband, Richard (Dick) Nichols in Sweet Grass when he returned from the Army to visit his parents. They were married on May 10, 1947 in Great Falls, MT. Dick went to work for the Texaco Refinery in Sunburst, MT and was transferred to the Anacortes Texaco Refinery in Dec. of 1958.
Vera went to work in the early 1960's doing seasonal work at produce canneries in Burlington and in 1970 went to work at Whitney Fidalgo Seafoods in Anacortes, remaining there for 15 years.
Vera was a member of the Anacortes Christian Church.
Vera was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick in February of 2001 and an older sister, Irene Harris.
She leaves behind two brothers, Kenneth (Avis) Berkram and Elmer (Patricia) Berkram of Cut Bank, MT; two sons, Richard (Janet) Nichols of Sedro-Woolley and Robert Nichols of Anacortes; one daughter, Carol (Frank) Mann of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren, Jim, Tracy & Tanya (Mann), Marian & Bradley (Nichols) & Niles, Erin & Lisa (Nichols); and 13 great-grandchildren.
At Vera's request, a simple graveside service with family and friends will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Anacortes on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at Vera's home, 2610 M Avenue, Anacortes, WA.
