Yvonne B. Tollefson passed away on May 2, 2014 in Anacortes, WA.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Flint, MI in 1933, Yvonne grew up in Edwardsville, IL.
She graduated from high school in 1950 before going to work for a large ad agency in St. Louis, MO.
Always one to seek adventure, she spontaneously decided to move to sunny Florida after a visit with her brother, Lou, a naval aviator stationed in Jacksonville. It was there that she met Chuck Tollefson, Lou's squadron mate and also a Navy pilot. They married two years later in 1957.
Over the course of the next 14 years, Yvonne and Chuck started a family and were stationed at a variety of naval air stations where their three sons were born. Their final assignment before leaving the Navy in 1971 was a two-year deployment to NAS Atsugi, near Tokyo, Japan. There Yvonne enjoyed collecting Japanese wooden dolls and traveling the beautiful country of Japan.
Having been briefly stationed at NAS Whidbey prior to Japan, they decided to settle in Anacortes in 1971. Yvonne worked at the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce DOL office with her best friend Lois LeBlonde, where many Anacortes locals remember her as "the license plate lady." She was very social and outgoing. She belonged to the Green Thumb Garden Club and especially enjoyed the meetings of her ladies social groups, "Monday Lunch Bunch" and "DumbNuts Luncheon Club."
After raising their sons and retiring in 1991, Yvonne and Chuck enjoyed traveling the U.S. by RV, sightseeing, golfing, rock hounding and polishing agates. Many of their winters were spent dancing and socializing with their numerous snowbird friends.
Yvonne was cheerful and bright, and always selfless and giving whenever friends or family needed a favor. Her infectious smile and generous, fun-loving nature brightened the lives of those she knew and loved. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Yvonne is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles H. Tollefson, sons Jim (Franki) Tollefson of Kent, WA, Eric Tollefson of Bellingham, WA, and Kirk Tollefson of Anacortes, WA; grandson Luke Tollefson; and brother Lou (Judy) Baldridge.
She was preceded in death by her sister Magene Chapman.
A memorial Mass will be said for Yvonne Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the NAS Whidbey Chapel at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the NAS Whidbey Officer's Club.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Yvonne's name to the Salvation Army in Anacortes.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Yvonne, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
