Viola Marie Jones of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014. She was born on October 3, 1939 in Ketchikan, Alaska to Verner and Virgie Holmstrom.

Viola attended school in Conway and Mount Vernon. In 1960 she married Jim Jones of Mount Vernon. He was the son of Wayne and Florence Jones. Together Viola and Jim had three sons, Russell, Kevin and Doug.
Viola earned degrees from Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University while she worked for the Skagit County Health Department. She also worked with Skagit Rape Relief and Battered Women's Services. At her retirement she was working for DSHS.
In 1984, Viola met her best friend, George Anderson, Jr. They spent years square dancing with the Skagit Squares. They were also very active in the Skagit Rock and Gem Club and North Puget Sound Faceting Guild. Viola was very active in all of these clubs serving in all positions of leadership over the years. She also wrote various club newsletters. Viola and George had 25 years of happiness, rock hounding, traveling, and visiting family in Oregon until George died in 2011.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers; Jerry, Daryle and Greg.
She is survived by her sons; Russell Jones and his wife Leanne of Mount Vernon, Kevin Jones of Hamilton and Doug Jones of Conway along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Washington and Oregon.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2015 E. Blackburn in Mount Vernon on August 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Kern Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
