Barbara Jean Carr, 73, died August 26, 2014, with her family by her side at Birchview Memory Care Center in Sedro Woolley after a long battle with Alzheimers.

She was born February 24th, 1941 to Walter and Fortuna Lightner of Los Angeles, CA. The family later moved to Seattle where Barbara attended Franklin High School. After high school Barbara met and married Alan J. Carr on June 26th, 1959 and the newlyweds settled in Seattle while Alan fulfilled duties with the US Navy.
After having two sons Barbara and Alan moved to Juneau, AK where their daughter was born. During their time in Alaska, Barbara enjoyed spending extensive family time camping and boating in the plentiful Alaskan outdoors.
In 1971, Alan and Barbara moved their family to La Conner to continue to raise their children. Barbara worked for Northwest Urology in Mount Vernon until her retirement, at which time she opened Carr Go Espresso & Deli in Anacortes, WA. When her husband Alan retired they sold the coffee shop and pursued a relaxing life with a mix of NW Washington and Yuma, Arizona. They spent many wonderful winters as snowbirds in AZ, having kids and grandkids visit them often.
Barbara dedicated her life to community service work, volunteering for Hospice and Soroptomist International, serving as President of the local Anacortes Soroptomist Chapter.
She is survived by: her husband of 55 years, Alan, her sons, Steven Carr and wife Kelly, children Leah, Justin, Bethany, Jordan, Amma and Alexa; Jerry Carr and wife Tracy, children, Katelyn, Megan and David her daughter, Alice Dahl and husband Chris, children, Brandon and Taylor Summers; eleven great-grandchildren, her brother and his wife, Glen and Kari Lighter, sister-in-law Velora Apeland and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Fortuna Lightner.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014, 1:00 pm at Hawthorne Memorial Park, followed by a Memorial Service, 2:00pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home and a reception in the Hawthorne Reception Room.

The family extends gratitude to the wonderful caretakers at Birchview Memory Care Center in Sedro Woolley, WA who spend the last three years taking care of, and loving our wife, mom, sister and friend.
