Sidney Jager, age 91, a long time resident of Skagit Valley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 with his family at his side.

He was born in Stedum, The Netherlands on December 10, 1917, the son of Hilko and Wibbina (Blink) Jager.
From 1940 to 1945 Sidney was a group commander in the Dutch resistance during the German occupation in WWII.
Sidney married Harmina Elina Schuur, known as Minnie, in 1945 in Slochteren, The Netherlands. Together they immigrated to the United States, settling in Washington State on May 1, 1950.
Sidney worked as a tallyman and foreman for Willis, Rodger and Pearson's (W.R.P.) lumber mill in Sedro-Woolley from 1951 to 1962. Sidney and Minnie together owned and operated Sid's Market in Sedro-Woolley from 1962 to 1970. Sidney went on to work as a realtor in 1970 until his retirement.
He also volunteered for the Mount Vernon Police Department and Skagit County Sheriff's Department.
He enjoyed watching sports and other activities.
Sidney was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Burlington. He was active in almost every area of the church for many years.
Sidney is survived by his wife of 64 years, Minnie Jager of the family home; son, Koos J. and his wife Cindy Jager of Anacortes; daughter, Emily E. and her husband, Lee Anderson of Anacortes and son, Randy D. and his wife Kandy Jager of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Dean Boerigter, Dawn Jager, Christopher and his wife Heather Jager, Kenneth and his wife Bethany Jager and Matthew Jager, Rebecca Walter, Stacie and her husband Jason Quatsoe and Breyden Jager; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Geertje Jager Medema of Winsum, The Netherlands; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hendrik, Klaas and Egbert Jager; and one sister, Jantina Jager Vinkes.
Burial took place at Hawthorne Memorial Park followed by a public memorial service that was held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, 1:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 800 E. Rio Vista Ave., Burlington with Pastor James Shaw officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.
