John T. Biggers, 85 of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012. He was born in Decatur, Illinois September 13, 1926 the son of Everet E. and Bernice (Dillinger) Biggers.

He was raised in Springield, Illinois, receiving a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of Illinois in Civil Engineering.

John was united in marriage to Hellen Steffens in Rockford, Illinois May 25, 1952. The family came to Mount Vernon in 1962 where he has resided since. Mr. Biggers taught at the Skagit Valley College in Civil Engineering Technology for 25 years. He was also a professional engineer and a licensed land surveyor.

He served with the United States Navy from 1944 thru 1946 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Mount Vernon.

John is survived by his wife, Hellen of Mount Vernon; five sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Talbert of New Orleans, Ben and Kathi Biggers of Anacortes, Mark Biggers of Seattle, Dan Biggers, David and Kim Biggers all of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eleanor Campbell.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 S 18th St, Mount Vernon.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, or to Hospice of the Northwest, 819 S 13th St, Mount Vernon, WA 98274.
