Henry John "Hank" DeGoede, 89, of Mossyrock, WA, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away in his sleep Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in his sleep in Olympia, WA.

The son of John and Anna (Timmer) DeGoede, Henry was born December 1, 1922. He grew up with 6 sisters and 7 brothers on a small bulb farm in Anna Pawlowna, Netherlands. In 1947 he was sponsored to the U.S. by bulb grower John Onderwater and settled in the Skagit Valley in Washington where he worked in the bulb industry.

On a business trip to California, he met Hildegarde Rohrer. They were married two years later on May 5, 1951. Soon after, he started his business, DeGoede Bulb Farm. They raised 6 children and in 1977 relocated the farm to Mossyrock, where it still operates today.

In later years, Henry and Hildegarde established The Children of Mary, a religious newsletter sent all over the world; as well as being instrumental in establishing the Eucharistic Marian Conferences in the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle; and were primary in organizing and leading pilgrimages to Rome, Assisi, Fatima, and Medjugorje. Henry established The Cross of Christ Foundation which supports seminarians, religious and consecrated, around the world. He was inspired to build a 70 foot cross and prayer chapel on his farm in Mossyrock where all are welcome to come for spiritual enrichment.

Henry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hildegarde, four sons, Jack (Debbie) of Mossyrock, Tom (Carolyn) of Lewiston, ID, Bob, of Mossyrock, Dennis (Rose) of Kennewick, WA; two daughters, JoAnn (Louie) Nurmi of Mt Vernon, WA and Mary DeGoede of Mossyrock; 27 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation may be made between Noon and 5:00 PM, Thursday, March 22 at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia.

Rosary and Memorial Mass will begin at 6:30 PM, Friday, March 23 at St. Yves Catholic Church¸ Mossyrock with Fr. Roger Smith presiding.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 24th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chehalis, WA with Fr. Tim Ilgin and Fr. Roger Smith presiding. Interment will follow at St. Yves Cemetery in Mossyrock with a luncheon following at the Mossyrock High School cafeteria. Memorials may be donations to The Cross of Christ Foundation, 395 Mossyrock Rd. W., Mossyrock, WA 98564 or a charity of the donors' choice choice.
