James Edgar Downs passed away peacefully February 6, 2013 with his son, Paul Downes and daughter-in-law, Donna Downes at his side. He was 97 years old.

He spent two years in the nursing home, first at Mountain Glen, Mount Vernon and then a year in a half at Golden Years in Port Angeles, WA.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 25 years.
He married his first wife Helene in Vancouver B.C. where his 3 children were born, Patricia, Paul and Susan. They then moved to Squamish, B.C. and then to Sitka, Alaska to work in various mills.
When the family was grown and married they retired to Anacortes, WA. There his wife, Helene, passed away from Lou Gehrigs disease in 1982.
In 1984 Jim met Ruth Jorgensen and they were married in 1986. They did extensive traveling in their RV to California, Arizona, Texas and across Canada to sightsee and spend time with friends and relatives.
He was a kind and caring husband until old age took him. He was very good to Ruth, especially when she had cancer.
He is survived by his 3 children and their spouses, Patricia & Steve Hopps, Paul & Donna Downes, and Susan & Alan Murray; 5 granddaughters, Holley & Casey Dennis, Lonna Spears, Sarah & Rick Klee, Michelle & Bill Anderson, and Heather & Dave.
A memorial service will be held on March 16, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, at 1:00pm.
