Hazel Matterand, 92, of Stanwood, WA went to sleep in Jesus, August 7, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.
Hazel was born December 22, 1920 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada to Harold and Ione Allison.
She lived in Canada, coming to the United States in 1942 to study nursing. She graduated from nurses training in 1945 and from Walla Walla College in the spring of 1950. In September 1950 she married Stanley Matterand and lived in Stanwood, until 2011 when she moved to Arlington to live with her daughter and family until her passing.
Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She spent most of her life working as a registered nurse at Mt. Vernon General Hospital, Skagit Valley Hospital, United General Hospital, Valley Manor (currently Mount Vernon Care Center), Josephine Sunset Home and ending her over 50 year nursing career at Warm Beach Manor at the age of 74. She was dedicated to her family, her work, her patients and well loved by those she came in contact with. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Cedarhome for over 60 years and currently a member in Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Stanley Matterand in 2010, her parents Harold & Ione Allison and her brother, Leslie Allison.
She is survived by one sister, Norma Allison Rogers of Langley, B.C., her two daughters, Nina (Dennis) Molstad of Arlington, WA and Cheryl (Craig) Wagner, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Melissa Molstad, Jason Molstad, Julia Wagner, Christopher Wagner and Eric Wagner and four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brianna, Wyatt and Izabella; as well as numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews.
A Celebration of Hazel's life will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church, Arlington, Washington.

Private internment at the Loyal Heights Cemetery under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home of Stanwood.
