Richard James Wilson, 70, born in Portland, Oregon then becoming a long time resident of Skagit Valley died at Life Care Center in Mount Vernon on Tuesday September 24, 2013, with his family at his side.

He graduated from Orcas Island High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, Richard enlisted into the United States Air Force serving from 07/1961 through 07/1965. After serving his enlistment, he returned to Mount Vernon as a State Patrol Dispatcher then forming his own long haul trucking company. Prior to retiring, Richard took on a job delivering meds to various facilities within Skagit, Whatcom Counties. In 2006, Richard finally retired and made his life and his home with Maria C. Viscalla.
Richard is survived by one daughter, Jody Wilson of Bellingham, and one son, Michael Wilson currently stationed in Afghanistan serving in the United States Air Force. Richard was blessed with 5 grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Judy Sophusson of Bellingham, and one brother, Robert Wilson of Burlington.
Later in life, Richard met Maria C. Viscalla (Sweets). Richard quickly became part of the family creating many loving memories. Richard enjoyed spending time with family and mostly the grandchildren. He could always be seen bouncing one of the grandkids on his lap with his cup of coffee next to him.
He is also survived by Maria C. Viscalla (Sweets), his partner in life, and her family; Daniel and Rachel Martin of Mount Vernon, Nick and Carmen Sanchez of Everett, Edward and Mindee Viscalla of Bothell, and Elie Viscalla of Concrete. Richard had 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Wilson and mother Julia Shor, and his older brother Pete Wilson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Life Care Center in Mount Vernon for all their efforts in making Richard comfortable under their care.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1700 E Hazel St., Mount Vernon. Final resting place is Mount Vernon Cemetery.
