So Sorry to hear of the passing of Bill Butchart. As a clubmate at the old botany harriers I remember Bill as an extraordinary talent who bravely fought to become a finalist in the 8oo metres at the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956. Had he had the opportunity to train and race overseas after this I believe he would have been a gold medal chance at the next Olympics. I remember Bill as an athlete and a club mate who showed interest in other teammates events and constantly gave encouragement to all of us in the club. This world can ill afford to lose a gentleman such as he. My deepest sympathies to all members of his family and friends.

Bill and I go back a long time to when we were Botany Harriers. Dick Corish the secretary of the club saw great potential in Bill and his faith was vindicated.
He was a truly great athlete who when defeated was never beaten.
It is great to have known him and may he rest in peace.
My condolences to all his family and friends.
