James was born in Alabama in 1927. In 1943 he joined the U. S. Navy at the young age of 16, where he saw action in the Pacific aboard the USS San Jacinto. James continued to serve his country for 30 years in the Navy, including two tours aboard the USS Midway where he participated in Operation Frequent Wind. He took pride in being an Aviation Boatswain's Mate and retired as a CWO 4 in 1976.
He was deeply in love with his wife of almost 40 years, Dionne, and was rarely seen far from her side. After James fully retired in the late 80's, they travelled the world together and enjoyed life.
He is survived by his wife, Dionne; daughter, Dawn; son, Jim; and the Livesey family.
His memorial will be held February 18, 2012, at 1pm on board the USS Midway.
