Roger Eastman(1938 - 2013)

Roger Eastman, of Ramona, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2013, having lost his battle with lung cancer.
He was born May 16, 1938, and adopted as an infant in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1938. Roger went on to graduate from Cornell University with a B.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He played varsity hockey and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Upon completing his military obligation as a medic in the U.S. Army, Eastman enjoyed travelling extensively throughout many countries around the world. One of his adventures has been published nationally (see Google/lulu.com/Over and Under/Roger Eastman.)
In 1977, after many years of managing restaurants and resorts around the states, Roger traded in his snow shovel for a real estate license and took up his practice in Laguna Hills, California. It was there that he met Rita – his lovely wife-to-be. In 1993 they headed south and built their home in Ramona.
Roger loved people! He and Rita were always throwing "talk of the neighborhood" parties. Entertaining friends and family, attending the First Congregational Church of Ramona, gardening, and cooking rounded out a full and happy life.
Roger always had at least one family dog and 100 or so hummingbirds hanging out by the kitchen window.
For 15 years, Eastman shared his warm smile and greetings with the students at Ramona High School where he helped served lunch.
Roger was a consummate gentleman; he always thought of others first and made each acquaintance feel they were special. He genuinely treasured the relationships he established with friends and family members.
Roger is survived by his wife, Rita Eastman; sister and brother-in-law; several nieces and nephew; five stepchildren and their spouses; seven grandchildren; father-in-law; and Rita's sister and brother-in-law. He was greatly loved by all and treasured the relationships he established with friends and family.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Ramona, 404 Eighth Street, Ramona. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately at the Eastman residence.
