June Whetstone, 93, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at her Rancho Bernardo home. June was born on November 19, 1919, in New Brunswick, NJ, to Andrew and Edna Sicknick. She was an Honors graduate of Douglass College, Rutgers University.|
After college June was a technical librarian for the DuPont and Shell Development companies before becoming a full time homemaker. During WWII, she was a member of the Jr. USO and entertained the troops. June moved to California in 1944 and to Rancho Bernardo in 1980. During her life she established two church libraries and sang in church choirs for 40 years. She was also involved with the Girl Scouts during her daughters' younger years.
June was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Escondido (in which she was married in 1947). She also belonged to the RB Senior Center, RB Friends of the Library, Continuing Education Center and was a financial supporter of a number of local organizations.
She is survived by daughter, Lynn Whetstone and her companion James Miller of Incline Village, NV; daughter and son-in-law, Holly Whetstone and Steve Woodford of Sheboygan, WI; and numerous cousins, nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her husband of 50 years, Richard R. Whetstone in 1997.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 1 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Escondido.
