Marcus Cook passed away peacefully with his family around him on October 6, 2012. Cause of death was congestive heart failure.|
Mark was born on July 24, 1930, in Watertown (Glen Park), New York. He graduated from Brownville/Glen Park High School in June 1947.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on April 7, 1948, and rose from the rank of Private to Lieutenant Colonel. He earned the bronze star while serving in Vietnam and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps on April 30, 1975.
Mark received a BA from National University in San Diego, CA, and later was employed at Nimbus Water Systems in Escondido and San Marcos for 10 years. He then worked as a volunteer for the Parks and Grounds Dept., City of Poway, CA, for 10 years, where he was known as "Mark in the Park."
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn A. Cook of Poway, CA; daughter, Susan M. Cook of Redmond, WA; son, Mark A. Cook of San Diego; three grandchildren, Matthew, Jason and Michelle Cook all of San Diego; and a sister, Frances Martindale of Watertown, NY.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway on October 18, 2012, at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
