Valerie J. Winchester, age 66, of Rancho Bernardo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. She was born on February 24, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Rudolph (Jack) and Alice Guenther. Her early years were spent growing up in the small town of Denver, Iowa. The family moved briefly to California, then back to the Midwest, settling in the Chicago area. |
Valerie was married to W. Allen Winchester on December 6, 1969. This union lasted for 23 years. Valerie was a homemaker who loved her beautiful home, entertaining friends and family. She also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She was active in a ladies golf league and won awards and trophies.
Valerie started spending winters in Rancho Bernardo until she moved here permanently about 15 years ago. She met her special friend and companion, Jim Anderson, and spent time with him playing golf, traveling, site seeing and attending Padres games.
She is survived by her special friend and companion, Jim Anderson; sisters, LuAnn (Mike) Boehm and Rebecca Cathey.
Valerie touched many lives with her joyful smile.
A memorial service was held May 6, 2013, at 2pm at Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian Chapel, 17010 Pomerado Rd., San Diego.
