Joan Long Obituary
Following her graduation from high school, she received her LPN Degree from LSSU in Sault Ste Marie, MI.
Joan married LeRoy Long on October 4, 1969. They moved to Tomah, Wisconsin in 1982. She spent 25 years working as an EMT with the Tomah Area Ambulance Service, and also worked as an admissions clerk at the Tomah Memorial Hospital. She was dedicated to her profession and loved caring for people. One of her greatest joys in life was watching her grandkids play sports. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She had a strong love of animals, from horses to dogs. Joan had a soft spot in her heart for the "unwanted animals" at the Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter and donated many Afghans for the animals.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy of Tomah, WI, her sons, Jerry (Pam) Long and Michael (Angela) Long all of Tomah, WI, grandchildren, Aaron (fiancée, Megan Brown) and Ilayna Long, Evan, Hannah and Reanne Long, a brother, Jerry (Donna) Wilcox of Sault Ste Marie, MI, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Frieda.
Memorial services will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah, Wisconsin. Pastor Travis Cox will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Online condolences are available at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
A special "Thank You" to Dr. Cheri Olson and her staff at the Family Practice Clinic in Lacrosse and to the Sparta Hospital for their wonderful care of Joan in her final days.

The Long and Wilcox families are in my thoughts and prayers. I went to school with Joan many years ago. She was such a nice gal. I am sure she will be missed by many. So very sorry for your loss.

Good bye old friend and thank you to all the Wilcox family for all the wonderful childhood memories we had growing up! Especially Joan hollering at the horses when they wouldn't do what she wanted-LOL I was so glad we had a fun visit last summer. Being the life of the party, you will be missed!
