DOWAGIAC - Walter's life began on July 24, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the son of Frank & Josephine Krzemien Kabara. He was united in marriage to Jane Kozimor on July 27, 1946 in Chicago, IL. He served his country by enlisting on October 12, 1943 in the U.S. Navy. He earned the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific (1Star), American Area, & the Philippine Liberation ribbon. Walter retired from Sundstrand. He is a member of Holy Maternity for 61 years, the VFW Post 1855, the Moose, and the Knights of Columbus 2113 where he was a 4th degree & on the honor guard. He was the Senior Representative for the Dowagiac Dial-a-Ride. He was a very good bowler, enjoyed golf & was a member of the CRO-AM Group, reading, traveling with his wife & friends, gardening, & spending time with his grandkids. He will be missed. His loving family includes one son, John (Lori) Kabara of Niles, MI; a daughter, Kathleen (Gregory) Schmidt of Dearborn, MI; grandchildren, Angela (Darius) Hurley of Batavia, IL, Gregory (Danielle) Schmidt of Dearborn, MI, Nichole (Barry) Kabara of Niles, MI, Sarah Schmidt of Chicago, IL, Andy (Elia) Kabara of Niles, MI, Emily Schmidt of New Haven, CT, and Jared Kabara of Ann Arbor, MI, and great-grandchildren, Liam, Olivia, and Molly. Walter passed away on August 31, 2013 at Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, James and brothers, Edward and Casimar. His family will gather with friends at Yazel-Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, MI, on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary said at 7:30 pm. Visitation will also be on Wednesday, September 4th at Yazel-Clark Chapel from 10:00 am until time to process to Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, Dowagiac, MI for a 11:00 am Mass. Celebrating will be Father Kevin Covert. Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles, MI. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church Building Fund.
