SOUTH BEND - Thelma L. Hotz, 92, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 5:49 AM Friday, July 26, 2013, at Dujarie House, Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, Indiana. Thelma was born on April 9, 1921, in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late William and Helen (Weik) Kessler. On December 26, 1942, in Hamilton, OH, she was united in marriage to Rev. Oliver C. Hotz, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1970. Thelma previously lived in Wheaton, Illinois, for 37 years where she served as an Executive Secretary at Central DuPage Hospital, retiring in 1986. She loved gardening, playing tennis, biking with her Pedal Pusher friends, golfing, going on long walks and playing Bridge, all of which she did well into her 80s. She also served as the "Art Lady" at local grade schools. As a pastor's wife, she was actively involved in each United Church of Christ that her husband served. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, belonged to women's groups and was a youth leader. At the time of her death she was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church in South Bend, IN. Thelma is survived by daughters, Rev. Ruth C. (Denny E.) Hotle of Lee's Summit, MO, and Dr. Roseann M. Woodka of Mishawaka, IN; son, Richard P. (Marta) Hotz of Mission, TX; six grandchildren, Thad D. Hotle, Kristi M. (Scott) Privette, Jennifer Hotz-Andre, Timothy D. (Robin) Hotle, Laura J. (Jason Thixton) Brown, K.R. (Kylie) Woodka; and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Dorothy Grammel and Erma Riggle, her brother, Paul Kessler, and great-granddaughter, Marlena K. Hotle, all preceded her in death. A Celebration of Thelma Hotz's life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 Frances St., South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend, IN 46634; or Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Parkway, Suite 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545-1440.
