SOUTH BEND - Sophie A. Wieczorek, 95, passed away at 2:00 am Saturday, February 16, 2013, in West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Sophie was born March 6, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Stanley & Josephine (Cierzniak) Dombek. On October 10, 1936, in South Bend, Sophie married Martin Wieczorek, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1953. Sophie was also preceded in death by a son, Bernard Wieczorek; son-in-law, Bernard Lichnerowicz; and sisters, Gertrude Wieczorek, Carrie Manuszak and Sister Mary Aurelia, CR. Survivors include Sophie's daughter, Theresa Lichnerowicz; son, Chester (Sylvia) Wieczorek; grandsons, Joseph (Cheryl) Lichnerowicz, Kenneth (Barbara) Wieczorek and Robert Wieczorek; granddaughters, Janice Gibbs and Cynthia (James) Wittendorf; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Lichnerowicz, Hunter and Tony, Samuel, and Miles Wieczorek, Nathaniel Gibbs and Nicholas, Sydney, Carter, Cameron, and Aylana Wittendorf; her sister, Rita Trzop; and many nieces and nephews. Sophie retired in 1979 from Uniroyal after many years of service; and she was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Sophie also was a member of the Ladies Civic Club, Polonaise Club of Forever Learning Center, and the Polish Women's Alliance of America Group 129. She loved to sew, crochet and needlepoint; and most of all she was a terrific gardener. Visitation for Sophie will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 22, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. A funeral ceremony will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 23, 2013, in the funeral home. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1308 W. Dunham St., South Bend, Indiana 46619.
