Laura Broe Obituary

Oct. 11, 1954 - Feb. 3, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Laura "Laurie" Broe died peacefully in her sleep on February 3rd of complications from Ameloidosis at the home of her sister, Beth Pinney, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. Laurie was born in South Bend, the youngest daughter of Jack and Marge (Norman) Broe, both of whom have preceded her in death. The family eventually settled in South Bend after living in Michigan, and Laurie graduated from Clay High School in 1972. She attended Kansas City Art Institute and graduated from Philadelphia College of Art with a BFA degree. After graduation, Laurie worked for several area advertising agencies, the most notable being Wainright-Raber Advertising Art Studio. She moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and finished her career as a designer for Scott Group Custom Carpets. Laurie was an immensely talented artist and delightful person. Her passions were endless and she truly "lived in the moment." The entire world was a gallery to her and she loved to marvel in the everyday joys and artistry of her surroundings. Laurie was an avid collector of books, masks, wind-up toys, stickers and "little things," and never forgot to add to the collections of family and friends. She never forgot her loved ones at Christmas and was famous for her calligraphic envelopes; you never overlooked a greeting card sent by Laurie. Seven years ago Laurie was diagnosed with Ameloidosis and underwent experimental stem cell therapy at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. This treatment was successful in abating the disease and allowed her to live nearly symptom-free until late last year. Laurie is survived by her two loving sisters, Beth Pinney (Hunter) of Kentucky and Dawn Brown of New Jersey; a nephew, Zach; and two nieces, Stephanie and Michaela. Condolences and fond remembrances may be posted on her Memorial Facebook Page: Rest in Peace Laurie Broe.

So sad to see this, Laurie was such a sweet and wonderful girl. I worked with her at Wainwright-Raber and shared many fun times and creative challenges. Her collections of "tiny treasures" was legendary and her talent was limitless! Hugs to Beth & Dawn.
