NILES - Lucene D. Daley, age 85, of Niles, MI, died at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN, following a brief illness. She was born on October 2, 1927, in Dowagiac, Michigan, to Robert Paul and Mary (Tinkham) Pethick. She was graduated from Dowagiac High School, moving to Niles in 1956. She was employed in the offices of the Kawneer Company in Niles and Atlanta, retiring in 1987 after 32 years of service. Lucene enjoyed baking, reading fiction, and college football at the University of Notre Dame. She was first married to Richard Struble. On May 18, 1968, in Niles, she married Jack Edwin Daley, with whom she celebrated the thirty-sixth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on May 5, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Struble on September 17, 1974; her sisters, Marna Briggs and Doris Burch; and her brother, Doyle Pethick. Surviving family includes her daughter, Renée Marie Struble (& Josef) Hauser of Offenburg, Germany; her grandchildren, Phillip Johannes Hauser, Louise Marie Hauser and Fritz Robert Hauser, all of Offenburg; her brother, Terry Lee Pethick of Niles; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Lucene Daley will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, Michigan, with the Rev. Cathi Huvaere of Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles, officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Lucene may be made to the donor's choice. www.halbritterfunerals.com
