NILES - Monty Ray Hillyer, Sr., age 51, of Niles, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Hospice House in South Bend, following a brief illness. He was born April 6, 1961 in Niles, Michigan to Gerald "Red" & Beverly (Singleton) Hillyer. Monty was a United States Army veteran. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and helping those around him. He enjoyed taking car rides and also being outside. He is survived by his fiancée, Sue Kane-Welling of South Bend; a son, Monty Ray Hillyer, Jr. of California; and a daughter, Nashaunda Hillyer of South Bend; 2 step-children, Jeremey (Kim) Welling and Krystal Welling, both of Niles; parents, Gerald "Red" & Beverly Hillyer of Niles; & 8 grandchildren: Adriana Young, Jonty Ray Hillyer, Haylea Welling, Raven Biggs, Jacob Welling, twins Skylynn and Leo Welling, and Gwen "Gwenny-bean" Rosenhagen. Also surviving is a sister, Deb (Don) Carpenter of Niles; and nieces and nephews, Donny, McKenzie, Shadd, Zach, and Bobbi Jo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Hillyer. The family will receive relatives and friends for a time of remembering and sharing from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles and will conclude with the Veteran's Flag Presentation and "Taps" by the United States Army Honor Guard at 6:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Monty may be made to the Center for Hospice Care (111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637). www.halbritterfunerals.com The Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, is assisting with arrangements.

So sorry to hear of Monty's passing. He was a great person. And A good kid when he was little. I remember when I use to babysit for him and his brother and sister. My thoughts are with all of you Red, Beverly and Deb. Also with all of his children and grandchildren.
