Chester S. Mackowiak Dec. 4, 1925 - Aug. 19, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Chester S. Mackowiak, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in his home. Chester was born December 4, 1925 in South Bend to the late Peter and Helen (Prusinski) Mackowiak. Chester is also preceded in death by his brother, Leo Mackowiak On November 7, 1959 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church Chester married his loving wife of 55 years, Theresa (Szklarek) Mackowiak, who survives, along with their children, David Mackowiak, Daniel (Christina) Mackowiak, and Catherine (Randall) Kerr all of South Bend; grandchildren, David Jr., Aaron, Mary, Matthew, and Benjamin; and a sister, Loretta Waletzko. Chester retired as a Computer Manager at First Source Bank after 40 years. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a long time member of Legion of Mary. Chester was a big fan of the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame Football. He enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader. Most of all, Chester enjoyed spending time at home with his family, especially his grandchildren. Visitation for Chester will be 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, August 23, 2015 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday, August 24, 2015 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619. Maike, Robert  
Robert J. Maike Jr. Aug. 22, 1959 - Aug. 21, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Robert Joseph Maike Jr., 55, passed away at 1:40 AM Friday, August 21, 2015, at his home. Robert was self-employed and installed hardwood floors. He was born on August 22, 1959, in South Bend, IN, to the late Robert Joseph Maike Sr. and Mary (Frantom) Maike Parmlee. On July 4, 1987, in California, Robert married Lisa (Close) Maike, who survives. Along with his loving wife, Lisa, Robert is also survived by his daughter, Amber Maike of South Bend; three sons, Robert J. (Monica) Maike III, Matt Maike and Michael Maike, all of South Bend; four grandchildren, Bryanna, Michelle, Journey and Matt; his mother, Mary Parmlee of South Bend; two sisters, Char (Rene) Paturalski of Edwards-burg, MI, and Liz Maike of South Bend; and his two brothers, David (Sherry) Maike of Colorado and Louis (Deb) Maike of Illinois. Robert served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Monday, August 24, 2015, at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Chaplain Arlan Cochran will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 PM Monday until time of services and then following services until 8:00 PM. Contributions in memory of Robert may be made to the family for final expenses. Malling, Terry  
Terry Malling April 22, 1943 - Aug. 25, 2015 NILES - Terry Malling, 72, of Niles, passed away peacefully at his home after a brief illness on Tuesday, August 26, 2015, with his wife and son by his side. Terry was born on April 22, 1943, to the late Frederick and Emma Lou (Exner) Malling in Niles, Michigan. After high school Terry joined the United States Army where he served for three years. In October of 2000 Terry wed Karen Marshall at a ceremony in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Terry was a member of the Niles Eagles Lodge and St. John's United Church of Christ in Niles. In his free time he enjoyed being outdoors, especially if he could be fishing, boating or working on restoring one of his classic cars. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Malling; mother, Emma Lou Arciszewski; brother, Mark Malling; and stepdaughter, Kristine Groves. Terry is survived by his loving wife, Karen Malling; son, Trent (Bridget) Malling of Niles; and three grandchildren, Jada, Quinn and Tristin. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Niles at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Ray Fulbright officiating. Mary Ann Martin July 20, 1932 - Aug. 26, 2015 CULVER - Mary Ann (Burkett) Martin, 83, of Culver, passed away Wednesday evening surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ann was born in Ora, Indiana of July 20, 1932, the daughter of Cecil and Blanche (Whetstone) Burkett. She graduated from Knox High School in 1950. She met William Martin in Mishawaka and they were married June 25, 1950 in Ora, Indiana. Mary Ann enjoyed music, especially Christmas music. She enjoyed painting ceramics. She was also an avid doll collector. Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom for her four daughters and later for her grandchildren. During her life she was involved in Girl Scouts, Culver Women's Bowling League, Culver Eagles and played Bunco. She taught preschool at Wesley United Methodist Church in Culver and also was a waitress at Caf‚ Max. She loved her family husband of 65 years William "Bill" Martin, daughters Debra June Martin, Chicago, IL, Glenda Joy (Larry) Pachniak, Warsaw, IN, and Brenda Lee (Steve) Harper, Plymouth, IN; grandchildren Addison Martin "Adi Marie" Harper, Jasper, IN and Lindsey Nicole (Mikey) Pauley, Ewing, VA; great granddaughters Jaylyn Harper Pauley and Adeline Sue Harper; sisters Judy Tillman and Linda Drang, both of Alabama; and brothers Gary (Bev) Burkett, Ora, IN and Randy (Geri) Burkett, Culver, IN . She was preceded in death by her daughter Tina Rae Martin, her parents, brothers Cecil Burkett, Glen Burkett, and Roger Burkett; and her sister Peggy Hale. Mary Ann was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. A time of sharing memories with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 5:00 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the Odom Funeral Home on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 2:00 pm, with an hour of visitation before. Burial will follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery. McClain, Alma C.  
Alma C. McClain July 12, 1930 - Aug. 16, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Alma "Christine" McClain of South Bend, Indiana, left this mortal life at 85 grand years of age on August 16th, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 12th, 1930, in Tyronza, Arkansas, to Robert and Rilla Walker. She met and then married John McClain Sr. on January 10th, 1947, a union lasting over 65 years. Together they started a family before emigrating to South Bend. For many years she served others faithfully and lovingly as a domestic worker and was cherished by the families that came to know her. She was also a faithful choir member who loved singing solos during her favorite hymns. She is survived by her children, Ruthie Stoner of Denver, CO, Curtis McClain and Patricia Smith of South Bend, IN. Her grandchildren, Loree Lindsey-Pack of Denver, CO, Christine Riley, John McClain III, Christopher McClain, Charla McClain, Renita McClain, Lakeisha McClain and Jacquesse Young; and a host of other great-grandchildren and family members. Christine was preceded in death by her husband, John McClain Sr.; her first son, John McClain Jr.; and her 4 siblings, Ovila Green, Alvin Walker, Vera Boykins and Dorothy Townsend. Services will be held at 12 pm on Friday, August 28, 2015, at Alford's Mortuary, with viewing occurring from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.

Dawn Bessinger McDonald Dec. 13, 1973 - Aug. 20, 2015 PLYMOUTH - Dawn M. (Bessinger) McDonald, 41, a former Plymouth resident, passed away from a work related auto accident on Thursday evening, August 20, 2015 in Orange County, Florida. Dawn was born in Plymouth, Indiana on December 13, 1973 to Randy H. Bessinger and Jeanette S. (Warren) Horvath. She was a member of the Plymouth High School class of 1991 and she later received her GED. On September 5, 2014, Dawn married Kevin D. McDonald in Argos, Indiana. The couple then moved to Davenport, Florida. Dawn was working as a supervisor for Faneuil Inc., a highway toll collection company for the State of Florida. Prior to her move to Florida, Dawn was an activities director for Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth and along with Kevin ran the Argos American Legion Post. She was a very crafty woman, always having her home decorated with re-claimed items. She enjoyed bowling, festivals and garage sales. But treasured most, the time spent at home or at the parks with her husband, and memories made with her family. Dawn was an amazing woman with a heart like no other. Her smile could light up the room and her hugs could carry you for days. Dawn is survived by her husband, Kevin of Davenport, FL and her two sons, Tim Bessinger of Virginia Beach, VA and Denis Watson of Plymouth; mother and father, Jeanette (Timothy) Horvath of Plymouth; stepdaughters, Casey McDonald, Katherine McDonald and Kenna McDonald of Plymouth; and her in-laws, Donna & Vern Borkholder of Milford and Clair McDonald of Scottsdale, AZ. Her siblings are: Kelly (Charlie) Redinger of Plymouth, Judy (Bob Bachtel) Richards of Plymouth, Jason (Tara) Horvath of Narvon, PA, Randa (Matt) Wheeler of Plymouth, Brian (Ethel) Horvath of the U.S. Air Force from Colorado Springs, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father in 1984, Randy Bessinger. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28th at 10 a.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Jeri Mickelson Jan. 4, 1933 - Aug. 11, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Jeri Mickelson, 82, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 4, 1933, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late William H. "Bill" Wells and Mildred Martino. Jeri is survived by two sons, Jeffrey A. (Laura) Mickelson of Lakewood, CO, and Mark (Jennifer) Mickelson of Winder, GA; grandchildren, Katilyn Olson of Plymouth, IN, Zachary, Benjamin and Olivia Mickelson of Winder, GA; one great-granddaughter, Nova Eve Mickelson of Winder, GA; three sisters, Colletta Hunt of Mishawaka, IN, Andrea Wells of Montgomery, AL, and Cleona (Ron) Dhaeze of Osceola, IN; and one brother, Timothy (Marvee) Wells of Osceola, IN. Jeri was a lifelong resident. She served her country honorably in the United States Navy. She retired as a phone operator for Indiana Bell Telephone. She was very creative and an artistic individual. Her family enjoyed being in her company. Loving memories will be cherished by family and friends. There will be no services or visitation. Robert Musgrave Aug. 18, 1962 - Aug. 25, 2015 BUCHANAN - Robert Jeffrey Musgrave, 53, of Buchanan passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo. Bob was born on August 18, 1962 to the late Willie and Joy (Florey) Musgrave in Niles, MI. He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Musgrave; brothers, Bill (Reta) Musgrave, Douglas Musgrave and Kenneth Musgrave; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jacob, Chance and Landon; dad, Jim Strong and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mutti, Ruby (Schrader)  
Ruby (Schrader) Mutti May 25, 1925 - Aug. 23, 2015 WAKARUSA - Ruby (Schrader) Mutti was born May 25, 1925, on the Schrader Family Farm to Otto and Naamah (Shearer) Schrader. She attended a one-room school (Slough School), corner of Miami & Quinn Roads, the first two years school, then attended the Lakeville Elementary School and then graduated with honors from Lakeville High School in 1943. She was employed at the St. Joseph Bank and Trust Co., South Bend, Indiana, as head bookkeeper and teller which was the beginning of her banking career of 45 years, retiring as Assistant Vice President of Operations at the Farmers State Bank of Wyatt in 1992. On June 17, 1945, she married the love of her life, Harold Mutti, who preceded her in death May 2006. She is survived by her son, Dr. Roger (Kay) Mutti, Bremen, Debra (Larry) Penrose, Bremen, and a sister, Marian Moody, Mishawaka, also several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Bryan Penrose, Wakarusa, Brandy (Rob) Bellman, Bremen, and Brett (Mindy) Penrose, Plymouth. Four great-granddaughters, twins, Nola & Brynlee Penrose, and Ciara and Emmersyn Bellman, and two new additions, due in November & February; sisters-in-law, Arlene Schrader, Helen Accoe and Alice Becher. Her adopted family, Rex and Julie Horein, her devoted friends and neighbor, John & Judy Marker, and pet cats, Sweet Pea and Nuisance. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and a brother, Raymond Schrader. Ruby was an active member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Wakarusa, serving on the church board for many years. Recently as Church President and Treasurer. Ruby loved life. She was always busy with family, many friends and neighbors. She loved working side by side with her husband's business and farming. She said what she did and accomplished during her lifetime was what God expected of her, but the best thing was when she heard the words MOM, GRANDMA & GGRUBY. What could be more precious? Also living the life God had planned for her. Rudy's Motto was always, "Have faith in God, take life one day and one step at a time." A special thanks to Dr. Walter Anglemeyer, Pastor Dale & Joan Speckman, niece, Gail Moody, Compassionate Care and Center for Hospice (both of whom cared for me during my illness). Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. service Monday, August 31, 2015, at Zion United Church of Christ, 12298 New Road, Wakarusa. Rev. Dale Speckman, Zion United Church of Christ, and Dr. David Schrader, Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Bremen Cemetery.
