Larry Eva Feb. 24, 1952 - Feb. 3, 2016 GRANGER - Lawrence “Larry” Eva, 63, of Granger, IN (formerly of Berrien Springs, MI) passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at his home. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Larry was born Feb. 24, 1952, in Benton Harbor, to Richard and Lois (Eck) Eva. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1972. Larry worked for D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant for over 40 years, or “since dirt” as Larry would say, and was a past president of the Employees Club. In Larry's younger years he worked at a marina in Traverse City and enjoyed boats and sailing. He had a die-cast car collection and loved cars, including his once beloved white Corvette. Larry loved to tinker on engines, and could fix anything and everything. He also never met a flashlight he didn't like. He enjoyed football, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears and University of Michigan. Larry is survived by his children, Jennifer (Rob Slabaugh) Eva of Buchanan, Steven Eva of Granger, and Taryn Eva of Grand Rapids; step-grandson, Nathaniel Slabaugh; siblings, Susan (Dick) Koelling of Albany, NY, Rick (Mary) Eva, Jr. of Canton, MI, and Cathy (Jim) Welch of East Greenbush, NY; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Buddy. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and best friend, Eddie Breault.

Farkas Jr., Charles E.  
Charles E. Farkas, Jr. February 8, 2016 ATLANTA, GA - Charles E. Farkas, Jr., 91 of Atlanta, GA, and formerly of Zionsville, IN, died February 8, 2016. Mr. Farkas was born in South Bend, IN, and was the son of the late Charles E. and Barbara Farkas. He graduated from Franklin College and served in The United States Marine Corps during World War II and The Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement, Mr. Farkas worked as an ombudsman for The Office of The Aging in the State of Indiana. Mr. Farkas is survived by his wife of 67 years, LuAnn Q. Farkas; son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Patricia Farkas; grandchildren, Jason Farkas, Coleen Richardson, Terri Reade; and sister, Joan Jordan. Follmer, Larry W.  
Larry W. Follmer Feb. 14, 1948 - Feb. 4, 2016 NILES - Larry Wayne Follmer, 67 years old, of Niles, passed away suddenly at his home on Feb. 4, 2016. He was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Grand Rapids, the son of Robert C. and Winifred L. Follmer, and had lived in Edwardsburg and Niles all of his life. Larry was a machine press operator and retired from Modineer Corp. He had great work ethics and Larry loved being around his family and friends. He spent three years going to Acme Tool and Die School, before entering the U.S. Army and serving his country during the Vietnam War. Larry was married April 26, 1975, in Niles, to Diane Joy Tebo, and she survives with their children, Daniel Steven (Tasha) Follmer of Osceola and Susan Wendy Follmer of Claremore, OK. There are two grandchildren, Cari Kulikowski and Lena Follmer, and two step-grandchildren, Christopher Crosswell and Kimberly Berkshire. Also surviving are several cousins and in-laws, and two special friends, Robert Leet and Richard Ladonski. Family and friends may gather for a Memorial Service to honor Larry on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, from noon to 1:00 PM at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St. (US-12), Edwardsburg. The Service of Remembrance will begin at 1:00 PM with Bob Hamilton officiating. Larry's cremains will be laid to rest in the Veterans Section of Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, with Military Rites by the United States Army Honor Guard playing Taps and folding the American Flag. The arrangements are being cared for by family friend, Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, MI.

Frame, Denis  
Denis Frame Oct. 22, 1963 - Feb. 9, 2016 NILES - Denis Lee Frame, 52, of Niles passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. He was born to the late Lee F. and Bonnie J. (Dickson) Frame of Niles on October 22, 1963. Denis graduated from Brandywine High School in 1982 and has been a life-long resident of the Niles area. Denis enjoyed spending time on his Harley and participated in The Niles Burn Run for many years and also enjoyed fishing with his neighbors. Denis is survived by his son; Doran Lee Frame of Hartford, Michigan; sisters, Karen (Ken) Wardlaw of Longview, Texas and Jill (Bill) Martin of Niles, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven L. Frame. Memorial contributions may be made in Denis' honor to Niles Burn Run, Inc.; 1445 S. 3rd. Street, Niles, Michigan, 49120. Donald L. Fries Jan. 20, 1928 - Feb. 2, 2016 LAKEVILLE - Donald L. Fries, 88, of Arcadia, Florida and Lakeville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016, in Homestead, Florida. Don was born on January 20, 1928 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Carldon and Edith Fries. Don is survived by his sister, Betty Wilson, his children, Gloria Hargarther, Rick Fries, Debby Furton and Donna Fries; grandchildren, Donald Hargarther, Jeff Hargarther, Robert Furton and Courtney Furton; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Hargarther and Nathaniel Hargarther. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Delores Fries, his sister, Opal Dubie, and his daughter, Kathryn Fries. Don was in the trucking business for 37 years. He also served as a firefighter and Fire Chief for the Osceola Volunteer Fire Department. After retirement Don became a reserve police officer with the Saint Joseph County (Indiana) Police Department. Don volunteered for many years in the 4-H Horse and Pony program, serving as a 4-H leader and on the Board of Directors of the Saint Joseph County Fair. Don also enjoyed raising and training horses, woodworking, racing micro-midgets and riding motorcycles. Don was a proud member of the Blue Knights. A celebration of life service will be held in Indiana at a later date.

James R. Furner Sep. 1, 1943 - Feb. 11, 2016 BUCHANAN - James Furner, formerly of Buchanan, MI died in his sleep on Feb. 11, 2016 at his home in Locust Grove, VA. Jim was born Sept. 1, 1943 to Richard and Elizabeth Furner in Buchanan. He graduated from Buchanan High School. He married Sandy Jones of Buchanan in Nov. 1964. Jim proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy. He then worked for 21 years at Freddie Mac. Jim is survived by his wife Sandy, two children, Scott and Rebecca of Virginia, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Thomas (Carole) Furner of Buchanan, Michael (Gayla) Furner of Niles, Patrick (Pauline) Furner of Berrien Springs, and his sisters Elizabeth (Hub) Hesseltine of Niles and Mary (Pierre) Weber of Jacksonville, FL. Cremation has taken place and his remains will be interred at Quantico Marine Base in Virginia.

Charlotte L. Ganser Feb. 17, 1947 - Feb. 7, 2016 MISHAWAKA - Charlotte Ganser passed away on Sunday, February 7 at St. Joe Hospital in Mishawaka. She was born on February 17, 1947 to the late Gene and Eleanor (Doll) Norris in Mishawaka. She married Raymond Ganser in St. Monica's Catholic Church on October 26, 1996. Surviving family includes her husband, Raymond; her daughter, Michele (John) Brandt of Edwardsburg, MI and their children, Teige, Mackenna, Tanner and Keaton Brandt; her son, Kevin (Debbie) Acrey of Mishawaka and their children Aubrey and Kincade Acrey; Stepsons, Ray “R.C.” Ganser of Miami, FL and his children, Leilani and Kalei Ganser; Eric (Megan) Ganser of St. Charles, IL and their children, Hannah and Gavin Ganser; and David (Katie) Ganser of Minneapolis, MN and their children, Adrie and Emma Ganser; her brothers Raymond (Barbara) Norris of South Bend, Rex (Susie) Norris of Mishawaka and Joseph (Mimi) Norris of Granger. Charlotte worked for many years in the Research and Development Department at Miles Laboratories, located in Elkhart. For 12 years she was a caregiver for her parents. Charlotte was loved by her children, grand-children, nieces and nephews for the loving care she gave them. Her beauty drew people to her but her warm heart endeared them. Visitation for Charlotte will be held on Thursday, February 11, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Services will follow on Friday, February 12, at St. Monica's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Monsignor Bruce Piechocki officiating. Cremation will take place after services. Ernest Garza Aug. 17, 1963 - Feb. 6, 2016 SOUTH BEND - Ernest V. Garza, 52, of South Bend, IN passed away at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at South Bend Hospice House. He was born on August 17, 1963 in South Bend, IN to Ernesto V. and the late Carmen (Hernandez) Garza. Ernest married Martha Olivarez on February 20, 1993 in South Bend, IN; she survives at home. Ernest is also survived by his children: daughter, Tiffiney Garza and sons, Ernesto and Devin Garza, as well as his sisters, Rosa (Jesse) Garza, Ninfa Garza, Delia (Jaime) Ortiz and Alisia Garza; and his brothers, Ramon Garza Sr., Jose Garza and Rudy (Becky) Garza. He also leaves behind a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-niece, Jaylah D. Garza. Ernest was a lifelong resident of South Bend, first attending school at St. Casimir and later graduating from Washington High School in 1981, but he never lost his Panther pride. He proudly served in the United States Army and was affectionately known as the family Sergeant or “the Boss”. Forever a sports fan, Ernest rooted for the Bears, White Sox, Notre Dame, and Texas. His love of baseball led him to become a pitcher and eventually a coach for the South Bend Padres and Holy Family. Ernest spent time working as a semi-truck driver. Another passion of his was music, especially Tejano and he also worked as DJ Master G. Ernest, enjoyed Coke, but never Diet, getting a rise out of others, but most of all spending time with his family. The family would like to say a special thank you to the members of Hospice House and to the nurses on the 3rd floor of Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1309 Dunham Street, South Bend, IN 46619, with cremation to follow. Donna Goldstone June 26, 1938 - Feb. 6, 2016 SOUTH BEND - Donna L. Goldstone, 77, of South Bend, IN passed away at 4:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at her home. She was born in South Bend, IN on June 26, 1938 to the late Phillip and Cleo (Mishler) Miltenberger and remained a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Goldstone was one of the first women to work in a coal mine. On July 11, 1990 in Rockford, IL, she was united in marriage to Bryant Goldstone. Mrs. Goldstone is survived by her husband, Bryant Goldstone; six daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Burkhart of Edwardsburg, Dena Parry of Mishawaka, Robin Jones of Edwardsburg, Stephanie (Carlos) Péna and Cindy Goldstone both of South Bend and Terry (Antonio) Lopez of Granger; three sons, Bryant (Bethany) Goldstone, Jr. of Granger, Michael Goldstone and Larry Goldstone both of South Bend; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and sons, Robert Holley and David Reed. The family wants to thank Center for Hospice; and a very special thank you to her nurse, Michelle for her loving care.
