I remember his enthusiasm whenever he showed up at the Michiana Astronomical Society. I can still hear his voice explaining things to us. I was crestfallen when I heard of his passing; sadly, there never be another Father Jim Fahey. And the world is a darker place because of it.

The three of us met in 1966 while training, under the brilliant and controversial Ivan Illich, for mission in Latin America. We kept in touch over the years and shared a memorable 25-year reunion of our training class in Cuernavaca, Mexico. We enjoyed Jim's visits to us in Florida, when he introduced us to star parties and his beautifully crafted telescopes. I hope that his research and documentation of church architecture will not be lost. He was a man of many gifts.

I will always remember Father Jim and the excitement he would always have after a trip to Chicago to pick up something from the science surplus store. "What did get this time Jim?", we would ask, and he would launch into a wonderfully enthusiastic description of his latest find. I will miss him. I hope the view is fantastic for him.

Thank you for the engaging and frustrating conversations. You taught me my first lesson in philosophy and the simple power of words. I'll always be grateful for that.

Thanks for all of the great times and conversations about astronomy and telescope building. Your skills in designing and building telescopes were unsurpassed. Thank you for showing all of us the Venus transit this past Spring. It was marvelous!
You were one of a kind Padre and will be missed very much. See you again on 'The Other Side'.
