Dear Jim, Julie and Karen: We wish to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family during this sad time. Chris was an exceptional human being who, despite obstacles, was a fun-loving and considerate young man. I will never forget our early years getting to meet him at the Elk's pool and then later, the joy and determination as he WALKED across the stage at Adams to receive his diploma along with our our son Patrick. Brings tears to my eyes recalling that special moment to this day. May you find peace in the knowledge you have truly brought an angel to be among us on earth.

Seeing the impact that Chris had on so many people makes me smile and know that if one person can make such a difference in the lives of so many, we have a chance at this whole humanity thing. Reading what my daughter wrote to your family allowed me to see that. Even though I never heard Chris speak, I could see in his eyes the soulful man and the mischevious boy all wrapped into one. Meeting your family and having the privilege to take care of Chris has given me gift. I thank you both for giving us Chris and for giving my daughter someone to look up to.~~Amy da RT Rivercrest Specialty Hospital.

Words are not enough to fully express our sincere condolences at this time. Chris was truly a unique individual who inspired so many. We are so grateful that we were privileged to share so many cherished moments in Chris' and the Bankowski family's lives. Our friendship went far beyond the principal-teacher and teacher-student relationships and only distance, weather and family obligations keep us away at this sad time.

Today, I am saddened by the death of a great man. But I celebrate the life of Christopher Bankowski who gave us all joy and inspiration. My first clue of Chris' greatness was one day when he was 2 years old. While on vacation with the Bankowski's, Chris knocked on my door, stood there with his tiny crutches, smiled and said, "Hi, Jan!" His whole life was filled with events that "weren't supposed to be." Thank you, Jim and Julie, for the gift of Christopher! He couldn't have asked for better parents, and you did him proud! I'll miss him, but never forget him! Love, Jan

Bankowski Family,

I love your entire family deeply and am so saddened to hear of Chris' passing. The one thing I remember about Chris is the day that he walked across the stage at John Adams to get his diploma (my daughter Kim graduated with him). It took him a while, but the entire gym was on their feet cheering him on. I cried like a baby then, and I still get choked up every time I think of that moment. It was one of the single most moving experiences of my life. What determination, drive, and what a victory his life was. I never once saw a frown on his face or hear a complaint from his mouth - he was a true inspiration to all. We are all better people for having known Chris. God bless you all in these days of mourning, but also for many days of pride and celebration to come.

To the Bankowski family

My mother knew Chris from work he was 1 of her patients at Rivercrest Specialty hospital the day that Chris came to Rivercrest she was excited to tell me because he and i shared a special bond we were born with the same disability spina bifida. And before knowing him i knew that he was going to be a friend to me for life because i havent met very many people that share the same battle i do. then the day i met him i also found out that he attended a university that i have always dreamed of attending Ball State. that made the bond stronger was we also shared the same love for sports teams Notre Dame and the Chicago cubs and music i was a very active member in the school choir at clay high school and when i heard that he played the violin i was struck because ive always wanted to learn to play and never met anyone with the same battle as me that did play.
