Joseph Erp Obituary
June 17, 1933 - June 19, 2016
SEYMOUR, IN - Joseph Allen Erp, 83, of Seymour, IN, passed away at St. Joseph Medical Center in Plymouth, IN, on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Joe was born June 17, 1933, in South Bend, IN, the son of George E. and Camilla M. (Reilly) Erp. He was married to Nancy Jane Beldon on August 19, 1961, in Seymour.
Joe was a longtime member of the Elks, serving as the State President in 1989, and spending over 17 years as the chairman of the Indiana Elks Cancer Research Fund where in that time the fund raised more than 3 million dollars to fight cancer. Joe also received the Sagamore of the Wabash award in recognition of his dedication and service in the Elks around the state.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children: Charlotte (Daniel) Tyree, James (Gloria) Erp, and Sarah (David) McKenzie; and many loving family members.
Preceding him in death are his parents and five siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Seymour, where Rev. Sandy Cooper will officiate. A reflection on Joe's life will be given by his friend Don Hill. Visitation will be at Burkholder Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 24, 2016, from 2-8 P.M., and at the church on Saturday from 9 A.M. until time of services.
A special service presented by members of the Elks across the state will be held at 7 P.M. on Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the Indiana Elks Cancer Research Fund through Burkholder Funeral Chapel.
