Arthur D. Ott

BUCHANAN - Arthur D. Ott, 71, of Buchanan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014, after a six-and-a-half-year battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on July 23, 1942, to Arthur J. and Ruth (Menchinger) Ott in Buchanan. Arthur was baptized in Bridgman on August 23, 1942. After graduating from New Troy High School he earned his Associate Degree in Engineering at Lake Michigan College. He enjoyed fishing, loved gardening, and was an active member at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glendora. He was very passionate about politics and interested in the direction of the country. Arthur most enjoyed spending time with his family. He retired as a Drafting Supervisor from Clark Equipment after 30 years. From 1969 through 1992 he was an avid farmer and after retirement started a plant business selling hostas, peonies, daylilies and ornamental grasses. On Nov. 29, 1969, he married Cheryl Walker at a ceremony in Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cheryl Ott of Buchanan; two daughters, Teresa (Matthew) McCubbins of South Bend and Andrea (David) McCoy of Dowagiac; brother, Larry Ott of Buchanan; sister, Elaine (Lawrence) Marsh of Buchanan; two grandchildren, Ashley and Tiffany McCoy; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Blad and Hunter Hawkins. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora, 1733 West Glendora Rd., Buchanan, MI, with pastor Jonathan Liebich officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the services from 9-11 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
