Carolyn Jane (Doyle) Snyder

Aug. 8, 1951 - Oct. 25, 2013 MISHAWAKA - Carolyn Jane (Doyle) Snyder, 62, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Friday morning, October 25, 2013, at Sprenger Health Care in Mishawaka. Born August 8, 1951, in Mishawaka, Carolyn was the daughter of Robert and Elsie (Weis) Doyle. She spent most of her life in Mishawaka, graduating from St. Joseph Grade School and Marian High School in 1969. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University in 1973 and her Master's Degree from Indiana University in 1979. Carolyn was a third grade teacher with the Diocese of Ft. Wayne / South Bend, for over 35 years. She touched the lives of over a generation of students, and for the past 28 years taught at Holy Family School in South Bend, where she retired in July of 2013. She taught the last 4 years while fighting ovarian cancer, but, except for surgery, never once missed a day of teaching, not even for chemotherapy treatments. Carolyn was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Her true passions in life were teaching and raising her two children by herself. Carolyn's surviving family includes her children, Annette M. (Ryan) Kurrus of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Matthew D. (Colette) Snyder of Crown Point; five grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick and Nathan Kurrus, and Sophia and Dean Snyder; her parents, Robert and Elsie Doyle of Mishawaka; her brother, Thomas R. (Jade) Doyle of Falmouth, Maine; a nephew and a niece, Evan and Mackenzie Doyle; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Carolyn was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Clifford and Anna Doyle; and maternal grandparents, Leo and Daisey Weis. Friends may spend time with Carolyn's family Tuesday from 4 - 8 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In recognition of Carolyn's devotion to education, memorial contributions are suggested to Marian High School Tuition Assistance Program, 1311 S.
