Donald Nichols June 8, 1925 - July 18, 2014 WARSAW - Donald Lee "Nick" Nichols, 89 of Warsaw, Indiana passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 4:10 a.m. at Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw. He was born on June 8, 1925 to Charles Ernest and Alice Cedola (Mackey) Nichols in Warsaw, Indiana. He was a lifetime resident of Warsaw. He was a 1943 graduate of Warsaw High School. He received the Gold Football Award as MVP in 1942 and was All-State in track and field in 1943. He served in the US Army during WW II in the 10th Armored Division, 21st Tank Battalion as a Machine Gunner, from 1943 - 1946 in Ardennes, Rhineland Central Europe obtaining the rake of Staff Sergeant. He was in the U. S. Army Reserve from 1950-1969 obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Sally Ann McConnell on November 27, 1949 in Warsaw, Indiana. He was Owner of Nick and Joes T.V. Sales and Service in Warsaw from 1949- 1987. He attended the United Methodist Church, Warsaw. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 49 where he served as Past Commander and Honor Guard member. He was a recipient of The Order of Kosciusko in 2010 for significant contribution to his Country, Community and veteran's service organizations. In addition other memberships include the VFW Post # 1126 and 40 & 8 all of Warsaw. He was longtime blood donor with the American Red Cross. He is survived by his wife Sally Nichols of Warsaw; daughters, Karen Nye of LaPorte, Indiana and Lynne Christiansen of Warsaw; a son Stephen Nichols of Warsaw. 2 grandchildren; Brett (and spouse Courtney) McDonald of Indianapolis and Nathan Nye of South Bend, Indiana; 2 great grandchildren, Mekare and Marik Nye. He is preceded in death by 3 brothers. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel. Pastor Toni Carmer will officiate the services. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Indiana with Military Honors rendered by American Legion Post # 49, VFW Post #1126 and the Indiana A.R.N.G.
