Ellen Marie Ransbottom Dec. 19, 1937 - Apr. 21, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Ellen Marie Ransbottom, 76, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, South Bend. Ellen was born on December 19, 1937, in LaPorte, to the late Charles and Myrtle Marie (Heath) Cavinder. After the early demise of her father, her mother married Donald D. Henning, who was her father figure. She lived most of her life in our local area. Ellen is survived by her five children: Chris (Kirk Liggett) Sheppard of Culver, Daniel (Jeri) Ransbottom of Rolling Prairie, Mary (Scott) Dix of Mishawaka, Patricia (Darwin) Scandling of Las Vegas and Jack (Jan Reese) Ransbottom of South Bend; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle, Laura, Stephanie, Frank, Bridget, Ryan, Mike, Valerie and Brian; twelve great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Ayla, Elijah, William, Tiffany, Hunter, Chase, Naveah, Tylor, Sequoia, Serenity and Dakota; and one brother, Dennis Henning of LaPorte. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Ransbottom in 1981; two brothers, Ralph and Ronnie Cavinder; and her infant sister. Ellen was blessed with many friends at St. Paul's. Puzzles, Bingo, and SkipBo were some of her favorite activities as well as the occasional outing. She also enjoyed singing in the choir and performing in the handbell choir. She always had a smile and a hellotruly knowing no stranger. She loved all babies and seemed to have a knack for making them smile. Ellen enjoyed being a dorm mother for the Culver Girls Academy from 1995-2005. She helped shape the lives of hundreds of young women at the Culver Girls Academy, keeping in contact with many through the years. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 , n the Chapel at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, 3602 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Eldon Heatwole and Carole McCollester, chaplains, will officiate. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to services at St. Paul's on Saturday. A private burial will take place at Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, IN.
