SOUTH BEND - The life of John L Smith began 82 years ago in Dublin, Georgia, when he was born to the union of John Redman and Ethel Smith on December 18, 1930. In 1950, in Dublin, John married Montana Dubley. He retired from AM General Corporation. The life of John Smith ended on Thursday, January 17, 2013, in his West Washington Street residence. Loved ones who survive to cherish his memory include three daughters, Betty Breveard, Wanetta (Willie) Coleman and Marie Smith, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; seven sons, John Smith Jr., Terry Smith and Rex (Brenda) Taylor, all of South Bend, Indiana, Jimmy (Leesha) Smith of Dayton, Ohio, Willie Smith and Jerry Smith, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Eddie Smith and stepson, Birrell Smith, both of New York, New York; 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Blue and Marie Ciesiolka, both of South Bend, Indiana, and Vicky Burls of California; three brothers, Willie Lee (Mindy) and Nelson Smith, both of South Bend, Indiana, and W.C. (Sammie) Smith of Queen, New Jersey. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Smith; his wife, Montana; a daughter, Odessa Mays; and three brothers, L.C. Smith, Ulysses Smith and M.C. Smith. Funeral services for Mr. John L. Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Alford's Mortuary
