SOUTH BEND - Sister Khadijah's life began on September 22, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, to loving parents, Julia Eloise (Algee) and Menrie Nelson Smith Jr. Our beloved Sister quietly passed from this life on October 17, 2013. Khadijah spent her formative years in Cleveland, Ohio, where she began to channel the sights and sounds of her life's journey through poetry. Blessed with the gift of tongues, Sister Khadijah used her voice to intercede on behalf of the oppressed and needy through spoken word. With her Lord and Savior ordering her steps, Khadijah married her best friend, Dallas Patterson Jr. on July 30, 1995. She studied cosmetology, business, and social and behavioral science. She graduated from Ivy Tech and continued her undergraduate studies at Indiana University
South Bend. Sister Khadijah was a published author, life coach, counselor and mentor. Armed with her faith in God and personal testimony, she led many wounded souls to Christ. Her sweet and gentle nature was infectious and once you entered her home, you didn't want to leave. Sister Khadijah was a faithful member of Old Path Church of God in Niles, Michigan. She enjoyed writing, entertaining, and loved to cook for her family and friends. At the time of her death, she was employed as a Case Manager at Jane's House of Life Treatment Center. Cherishing her memory are her Husband, Dallas Patterson Jr.; Children, Steven Arthur Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Rhonda Louise Luster, Tasha Patterson and Dallas Patterson III; Mother, Julia E. Smith; Siblings, Stephen Smith (Carrie), Lynda Kay Smith and Cynthia Gayle Smith (Frankie), all of South Bend, Indiana. Khadijah was blessed with six beautiful grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her Father, Menrie Smith Jr., and a Sister, Pamela Ann Britton.
