SOUTH BEND - Martha J. Freeman, 53, of South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in her home, surrounded by family. She was born on December 20, 1959 to Lois Freeman and James Rufus Freeman Sr., in South Bend, Indiana. Martha completed her education in the South Bend Community School System, graduating from Logan Industries. She was employed by Goodwill Industries as a clothes Sorter. She loved cooking, reading, puzzle books, taking long walks and spending time with family and friends. She was an usher at Greater New Jerusalem, where she was active until her illness prevented her from fulfilling her duties as an usher. She also held the office of treasurer for the usher board, and assisting with dinners for special occasions held at the church. She remained a faithful member of Greater New Jerusalem until her death. She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Lois Freeman; siblings: Dorothy (Marvin) Gandy, William Freeman, Burnill (Aaron) McMillan, Sandy Green, and Ida Green, all of South Bend, Indiana; nieces: Tinisha Mitchell, Janette Cleveland, Alisha Green, Salease Wardlow, Janease Wardlow, & Uneka Thomas; nephews: James (Jessica) Johnson, Issace (Lee Ann) Mitchell, Fredrick Green, Cornelius Williams, Aaron Green, and James Wardlow; 21 great-nieces and great-nephews; a special friend, Cleo, along with a host of other family and friends, too numerous to count. She shared a close bond with her great-niece, LaRonda Cleveland. Martha was preceded in death by her father, James Rufus Freeman Sr.; & a brother, James Edward Freeman Jr. Funeral services for Martha J. Freeman will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 in Greater New Jerusalem, 1635 Linden Avenue, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and service at 12 noon.
