Robert H. Michaud

SOUTH BEND - Robert Henry Michaud, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, June 19, 2013. He was 86 years old. Mr. Michaud was born January 5, 1927 in Claremont, New Hampshire, the only child of Henry O. & Mable (McLaughlin) Michaud. On February 17, 1947 at the Log Chapel at the University of Notre Dame, he was united in marriage to Martha M. Mangan. She passed away February 28, 1992. Then on July 27, 2000 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame, he married Mary Linn Barrett. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, along with two stepdaughters, Amber (Greg) Deranek of Osceola, IN and Kelly (Colin) Nelson of St. Petersburg, FL; and a grandson, Alexander Deranek. Mr. Michaud began as an Attorney for the Bendix Corp. in 1956 in California, and moved to South Bend in 1957. He retired from Honeywell in 1993. He graduated with a BA in 1950 from the University of Notre Dame, and a Juris Doctorate from Notre Dame in 1951. He was a longtime member of the Basilica of Sacred Heart, and was a member of ECDC-Early Childhood Development Center of St. Mary's and Notre Dame, where he served as Board President from 1971-2010. He served on the Notre Dame Law Council from 1978-2011, was a member of the Monogram Club, Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley where he was Man of the Year in 1983. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Graveside services and military honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Early Childhood Development Center, St. Mary's College and the University of Notre Dame, 10 Child Care Center, Notre Dame, IN 46556. The Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN is assisting the Michaud family with arrangements.
