Roberto Cesar Hernandez Altamar


Oct. 19, 1916 - Nov. 7, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Roberto César Hernández Altamar, 97, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Healthwin Specialized Care. He was born on October 19, 1916, in Baranoa, Atlántico, Colombia, S.A., to the late Julio Hernández and Dorcas (Sanchez) Hernández. The Reverend Doctor Hernández Altamar is survived by his sons, Roberto A. Hernández and Paul D. Hernández, and daughter, April E. Hernández of South Bend, IN. The Reverend Doctor Hernández was a graduate of Purdue University, where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering, and a Master's in chemical engineering from the University of Tulsa Oklahoma. He went to the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, and was ordained an Episcopal Priest. He also earned a Master's in Social Counseling from Indiana University. Later in life he earned his Ph.D. through Oxford University, England. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at The Episcopal Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, Indiana. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday with a reception following the services. Entombment will follow at St. James Cathedral Columbarium, South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Contributions in memory of the Rev. Dr. Roberto César Hernández may be offered to The Cathedral of Saint James.
